The dense rainforest of the Aberdares presents a challenge to wildlife enthusiasts hoping to see elephants. This thick canopy of the forrest environment makes spotting any animal difficult, and even the large forms of elephants can disappear within forrest and the folds of the Aberdare mountain range.
Queen’s Cave Waterfall in the Aberdares holds a special historical significance, as Queen Elizabeth II visited the site in 1953 while she was still Princess Elizabeth. The cave was formed through retrograde erosion, where the river carved away a layer of soft volcanic tufa at the base of the Magura Waterfall. Visitors can walk inside the cave on the right-hand side, offering a unique view of this stunning natural feature. The waterfall itself is both spectacular and picturesque, making it a must-see destination.

On the way to the peak of Ol Donyo Lesatima (3,999m), you will pass what is called the dragon’s teeth (situated in the Aberdares moorlands). The Dragons teeth are visible from far away when approaching the Aberdares mountain range. Although on our trip, we had mixed weather with sun and dramatic clouds, in the picture, it is the dramatic clouds that dominate the view. The Aberdares mountain range in Kenya is known for its unusual rock formations, including the Dragons teeth. These are a series of tall, jagged rocks that resemble the teeth of a dragon. Driving up to the moorlands in the Aberdares park you get a chance to see some of the fantastic waterfalls that the park has to offer. Chania Falls is one of them. One of the most famous 4WD rallies, the Kenyan Rhino Charge attracts entrants from all over the world. The Rhino Charge is the main contributor to the fence building around Kenya’s water towers thereby protecting critical habitat and water supplies for generations to come. Rhino chargers drive their vehicles through tough terrain in order to raise money for charity. The event takes place every year in June, and it raises millions for conservation projects around Kenya. Climbing through a hail and thunderstorm to the peak of Elephant Hill was actually a quite hard journey at least that was how it felt climbing the slippery stony mountain walls. The Aberdares are covered in thick forest and bamboo at the lower altitudes and at times it looks like a impenetrable green wall in front of you. 3906 meters.
