Lake Magadi is a swallow water body full of soda and other minerals making the waters rich in algae and small fish. The abundance of those resources are in turn feeding the thousands of water birds traversing the shores.
Did not have to go anywhere, this Hornbill landed in the tree next to my house. Quite a expressive face on this beautiful bird.
We had been sailing for an hour inside the dense mangrove forest behind Funzi Island on Kenya’s south coast. The forest is a haven for a wealth of bird species that feed on the insects, invertebrates, and fish thriving among the mangrove trees. The brackish water—a unique mix of fresh and salt—creates a fascinating marine environment teeming with wildlife and picturesque scenery.
