Climbing through a hail and thunderstorm to the peak of Elephant Hill was actually a quite hard journey at least that was how it felt climbing the slippery stony mountain walls. The Aberdares are covered in thick forest and bamboo at the lower altitudes and at times it looks like a impenetrable green wall in front of you. 3906 meters.
On the Mara open grass plains a large Southern ground Hornbill is hunting for reptiles, frogs, snails, insects. Quite a beautiful bird.
Inside the dense bamboo forest following a Elephant trail we encountered few hours old elephant excrement and plenty of deep foot print. On the muddy stretches it appeared that a large group of elephants had passed a few hours earlier.
The Aberdares are a mountain chain in the Kenyan Rift Valley covered in dense forest on the lower altitudes. Here you will find a rich variety of wildlife including mountain elephant, leopards, buffalo, baboon. The dense forest and extremely steep mountains makes hiking/climbing an difficult endeavor. Elephant tracks are everywhere although it is difficult to actually spot the animals inside the forest.
