Two marabou storks rest in the sweltering heat at Lake Magadi

In the sweltering heat, their bodies are completely motionless. With their bare heads and wrinkled and patchy skin, the marabou stork might not win a beauty contest, but they are hardy survivors in even harsh environments like around lake Magadi. Here, in the blazing midday heat of Magadi, one of Kenya’s hottest regions—temperatures can soar to a scorching 40°C, and add to that you are in an area where it is difficult to find any shade.
