A prime location for this spectacle is the Kilaguni water hole, a vital water hole in the arid landscape that attracts a constant stream of wildlife throughout the day and night. The relationship between the African buffalo and the red-billed oxpecker is complicated. Although it mostly consumes ticks, which helps to keep the buffalo comparatively free of these parasites, it also has a tendency to leave the buffalo’s wounds open so it can draw blood. Given this behaviour, it is unclear if the oxpecker is indeed helpful to the buffalo or if it is eventually a nuisance.
The dik-dik is a diminutive gazelle commonly spotted on safaris in regions like Tsavo National Park. Unlike many other gazelle species that congregate in herds, dik-diks typically live in monogamous pairs. Their large eyes are an adaptation to their vulnerable size, allowing them to detect predators lurking in their environment.
