Family of hippos floats lazily in the Mara River
A large family of hippos floats lazily in the Mara River, escaping the heat of the afternoon. Dark clouds gather overhead, hinting at the possibility of rain that would bring much needed relief to the dry grasslands. This is the Maasai Mara at its best. The Hippo’s huge, triangular teeth, which can grow up to 50 cm in length, are utilised for chewing and biting through tough vegetation. In addition to being territorial, hippos will use their terrifyingly sharp teeth to violently protect their territory.
