Tsavo West National Park

This beautiful Buffalo looked right into the camera with soil, dirt covering the forehead and horns. 

In the bone dry Tsavo West on the ochre colored soil, a slim Olive Baboon is passing the water hole. A little earlier it was foraging for insects, spiders and scorpions on the ground.

A hippo is a quite aggressive animal and you have to be careful if you encounter one on land. Big with teeth as sharp as knives, if possible stay away.

On a beautiful sunny morning we found this strong Fringe-eared Oryx inside some bushes in the Tsavo West National Park

Tsavo lion with the unique mane that characterise the lions that live in this rugged terrain. Although I have been on safari in Tsavo many times it is not that many times I have encountered lions in this park. In the old days of railroad building these particular lions had a fierce reputation for being man eaters.

They are difficult to find but finally we got sight of two of the elusive Klipspringers of Tsavo

Four Elephants at the water hole. The park was extremely dry and dusty,  they looked very thirsty and stayed a long time filling up the tank.

In the long dry grass the Chestnut-bellied Sandgrouse can be very difficult to see, Camouflage at its best.
