Tsavo East National Park

These colorful Vulturine Guineafowl are insect and seed eating birds. Normally seen in the semi arid regions of Kenya. 

This Hippo did not like our presence and left the small lake with a turtle hanging on the back. The turtle did not fall off as long as I could watch the Hippo disappear in the forest.

Elephant with a very dark patch of mud on one side. It nearly looks like oil but is in fact dark mud. The elephants have sensitive skin and love to cover themselves in sun screen made of mud. This image is taken close to the Galana river that  snakes it way trough the very dry landscape in Tsavo East National Park.

A opportunistic baboon moving closer and acting like he is not interested in our food box. Have to be careful here.

Lugard Falls in Tsavo East with the beautifully eroded and sanded rocks that the Galana River have been grinding on for thousands of years. Depending on the time of the year (rainy seasons) the river can be mild and accommodating, but at other times it can be a wild beast that crushes everything in its tracks.

Looks a bit funny when zebras stand like this, it is suppose to be a social gesture.

Over thousand of years the Galana River have polished the rocks to form these amazing sculpted features. In the background you can see the famous Yatta Plateau.

Large male elephant in Tsavo East National Park. The park is largely arid bush where the Galana River passes trough as an oasis and lifeline for the many birds and wild animals in the park. Tsavo East is one of the largest National parks in the world and cover a wast expanse of semi arid landscape with the impressive Yatta plateau as a stunning backdrop.
