A Marabou Stork in the morning sunlight
Marabou storks are enormous birds known for their ability to consume almost anything, including leftovers from carnivores and decaying carcasses of animals that have died from illness or disease. Their scavenging role makes them vital for maintaining the cleanliness of the savanna, working in tandem with ants that finish off the remaining scraps.
To many, the Marabou stork may seem like an unattractive bird. Its sparse head feathers and patchy skin give it a somewhat sickly appearance, resembling the face of a very old man. Yet, despite its unconventional looks, the Marabou stork plays an indispensable role in the ecosystem.
