The Masai Mara annual migration (also known as the Great Migration) of Thomson’s gazelle, zebra and wildebeest to and from the Serengeti every year from July to October. One of the great spectacles of the world and a quintessential thing to see should you pass Kenya/Tanzania around August/September.
Large flightless bird that is also the fastest two legged animal in the world. The ostrich has excellent eyesight and hearing making it alert to predators such as lions from far away. It can sprint at up to 70 km/h making it very difficult for predators to catch and can also maintain an average speed of 50 km/h over long endurance runs. The ostrich legs are a powerful weapon and they can cause serious injury and death with their forward kicks.
Considered a very aggressive animal that is known for taking down pray that is much larger than the Jackal itself. It is the oldest living member of the genus Canis family. It is a very light build animal with ears that seems over sized in relation to the head. The Black-backed jackal forms a monogamous pairs and normally also hunts as a pair. Jackals are most active at dawn and dusk.
Lappet faced vulture has characteristic red, wrinkled neck and face making them easy to recognize. It is a very powerful bird and the beak is strong enough to break and eat bones. The heavy beak can also break trough tough skin such as elephant and rhino.
They normally build a large nests that is sometimes up to more than 1m in diameter. The nest will usually be high up in a tall tree. The incubation of the eeegs and the feeding of the young ones are shared between the male and female. Latin name: Torgos tracheliotus

The fastest land animal the cheetah. We just arrived as this cheetah mother had just taken down a Grant’s gazelle for her two cups to feed on. The small family was chewing away as the gazelle was starring lifeless into the sky above. Females live alone and they raise their cubs on their own. A beautiful predator build like a racing car.
The images you see here is from an early morning at the Mara river where this group of lions where out looking for a easy meal. Lions are not a very fast hunters and consequently have to use other techniques to get a full stomach. Many times lions just hide in the grass or in a bush where it knows that prey will pass, it could be a water hole or route that is used by zebras, wildebeest etcetera. Lions tend to hunt mostly in the morning or at night but if the chance arises they will kill even in midday sun on a hot day. A quiet morning in the Masai Mara Kenya.
Hyenas are mostly viewed with contempt, but Spotted hyenas are natural born killers that hunt in packs relying on stamina as they slowly kills the prey by biting and attacking the selected animal over a longer period. They look like dogs but are more closely related to the biological family of cats. They have a solid build, strong jaws and paws with non-retractable nails that are adapted for running and turning quickly.
